They smiled into each other’s eyes. She broke their intense gaze by glancing toward the bag he dropped earlier when he came in; then flicked her eyes back to his.

“What’s in the bag?”

“Dinner …” He leaned up and kissed her nose. “We could have dinner first or,” he kissed her neck, “afterwards.” He looked at her knowingly, waiting for her response. She gave the food a cursory glance before giving him a slow, sweet kiss in answer.

A couple of hours later they sat in his bed wrapped in sheets, eating reheated take-out from the restaurant. He kept trying to feed her while she laughed at his corny accent.

He enjoyed making her laugh. She wiped a tear from her eye as she tried to contain her laughter. At first, she insisted on going back to the boarding house tonight, but he managed to coax her to stay the night again. He noticed her yawning.

“I think Sleeping Beauty is tired.” Alex’s mouth quirked up into a grin. He removed the cartons of food from the bed and patted the open spot next to him. “Come to papa.”

Gemma giggled as she rolled to her side to face him. “Are you always this goofy?”

She ruffled his hair as she tried to stifle another yawn.

He smirked at her. “Only for you.”

Her sleepy smile was adorable as he leaned over to kiss her softly on the lips before turning out the light.

Within minutes, they were both asleep, nestled in each other’s arms.

Gemma awakened first and found Alex still sleeping peacefully on his stomach. His hair was mussed, and she could just barely hear his deep, even breathing. An idea suddenly hit her, and she slipped out of bed and put on Alex's shirt before going to get her camera.

She came around to his side of the bed. Alex was resting on his stomach with his face turned away from her now. Despite this, Gemma didn't feel she had missed getting some good shots of him. Alex had such a strong back. Thankfully, he’d kicked the covers off a bit, and the top of his buttocks was exposed. The image he presented was sexy, but there was something serene about it as well. She snapped a few shots and then checked the frame. The way the light was hitting him and the bed was almost magical, like he was being bathed in the sunlight. She kept snapping pictures, varying her angle a little each time.

Suddenly, Alex rolled onto his back. Gemma froze, hoping she hadn't woken him up. She waited with bated breath. His deep, even breathing resumed as she saw him rub his hand down his chest. His face was angled toward the camera. For a second, her camera was forgotten as she watched him in slumber. He looked peaceful. She slowly put her camera back in place and took a few long shots, but then pushed in for close-up shots of his face, and then extreme close-ups of his closed eyelids so that she saw the tiny blue veins and the golden brown of his eyelashes.
